Getting started
MTS Social Auto Post shares your WordPress content to a Facebook Page automatically. When a post is published, including a scheduled post going live, the plugin sends it to your Page. You never have to copy a link into Facebook by hand. This guide covers installation, connecting your Facebook Page, and every feature in the plugin.
The connection uses a Facebook App that you create in your own Facebook account. Your credentials stay on your site, and nothing passes through a third-party service.
Installation
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New and search for "MTS Social Auto Post", or upload the
mts-social-auto-post folder to /wp-content/plugins/.
- Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu.
- Go to Social Auto Post in the admin menu and open the setup wizard.
Connecting to Facebook
The setup wizard walks you through five steps. Each step saves as you go, so you can leave and come back.
Step 1: Create a Facebook App
- Go to developers.facebook.com and log in with your Facebook account.
- Click My Apps, then Create App.
- Select Other as the use case, then Business as the app type.
- Enter any app name, such as "My Website Auto Post", and your email address, then click Create App.
Only you see the app name, and creating an app is free.
Step 2: Add your App credentials
- In your Facebook App dashboard, go to App settings > Basic.
- Copy the App ID.
- Click Show next to App Secret, enter your Facebook password if prompted, and copy the App Secret.
- Paste both into the wizard and click Save & Continue.
Your App Secret works like a password. The plugin encrypts it before saving it to your database. Once it's saved, you can leave the field empty to keep the current value.
Step 3: Find your Page ID
Your Page ID is a number, not your Page name or username. You can find it in either of two places:
- From the Page URL: if your Page address looks like
facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789, the number is your Page ID.
- From the About section: open your Page, go to About, scroll to Page transparency, and copy the Page ID.
Step 4: Generate a Page Access Token
The Access Token is what lets the plugin post to your Page on your behalf.
- Open the Graph API Explorer.
- In the Meta App dropdown, select the app you created in Step 1.
- Click Add a Permission and add all three:
pages_show_list, pages_read_engagement and pages_manage_posts.
- Click Generate Access Token, continue as yourself, select your Page, then click Done and OK.
- Open the User Token dropdown and select your Page. This switches it to a Page Access Token.
- Copy the entire token and paste it into the wizard.
The token is over 100 characters long, so make sure you copy all of it. A token from the Graph API Explorer expires after about an hour. After setup, go to
Settings to extend it to 60 days.
Step 5: Test and complete
The wizard tests the connection to your Page. When the test passes, the dashboard shows
Connected to Facebook. You can run
Test Connection again at any time.
The dashboard
The dashboard shows your connection status and four counters: total shares, shares this month, scheduled posts waiting to share, and your success rate.
Recent Activity lists the latest shares, and
View All opens the full share history.
Auto posting
When you publish a post, the plugin shares it to your Page. This works for:
- Published posts: shared the moment you click Publish.
- Scheduled posts: shared when WordPress publishes them, even if nobody is logged in.
- Any public post type: pages, WooCommerce products, events, portfolios and custom post types. Choose which ones in Settings.
Existing posts are never shared automatically. Only content published after you connect is sent. To share older content, use Manual or Bulk Share.
Per-post control
In the post editor, you can turn auto-sharing off for an individual post, or write a custom message and hashtags for that post alone.
Post templates
Templates control how posts appear on Facebook. Use these variables:
{title}: the post title
{excerpt}: the post excerpt
{url}: the link to the post
Category filtering
Choose which categories are shared automatically, or exclude the ones you want to keep off Facebook.
Manual and bulk share
Use
Share Now to share any single post on demand, or select several existing posts and share them to your Page at once.
Share history
Every share is logged with its status, a timestamp and a link to the Facebook post. If a share fails, the log records it so you can see what happened and share it again.
Troubleshooting
Posts stopped sharing
The most common cause is an expired Access Token. Open the dashboard and click
Test Connection. If it fails, generate a new token (Step 4) and extend it in Settings.
The connection test fails
Check that the Page ID contains only digits, that all three permissions were added before you generated the token, and that you switched to a Page Access Token rather than a User Token.
Can I post to my personal profile?
No. Facebook only allows apps to post to Pages, not personal profiles.
